During Hebrew history many nations rose to dominance and then declined. The following list is in alphabetical order. There were not democracies as we understand the concept.

Defeated the Northern Kingdom (Israel) in 722 B.C.Carried Israel into exile
Israel (the Northern 10 Tribes) never fully recovered.

CITY OF, ancient walled city between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Began as a small independent nation. Struggled with Hittites and Assyrians for dominance at various times

Egypt - Major power in Hebrew history. Their influence began with Abram and was felt until the Divided Kingdom era.
Hittites - A major power in the Ancient Near East. For many years some scholars denied the existence of the biblically referenced Hittites.

Know for sea trade.
Lived in coastal plain.
Ports of Tyre and Sidon.
Generally given credit for originating the alphabet and skills of glass-making and dying of cloth.
