Attention is a basic need, Children need loving attention as much as they need water. A moment's attention from an adult as this picture is taken brings an almost giddy smile to this beautiful child's face.
In Kenya, there are over 60,000 street children in the Nairobi area alone. Besides, the orphaned, many have been abandoned by parents of grandparents who can't afford their care.
Imagine a typical day lot many of these children. As this beautiful smiling child poses for her picture, others play in a (Jump and raw sewage or drink by dipping a tin can into a mud hole. These children are living on the street without a home or even any reliable source of food or water. Many survive by eating from garbage piles and sniffing glue.
These images have haunted Allan Smith since his initial mission trip to Kenya in 1996. Allan's call from the Lord is to return to this place to provide for the physical and spiritual needs of these children of God.
The Smiths' calling and now their passion, is to serve the Lord and to create a safe, loving home, school and church for children on donated land in Isenya Kenya. The home will provide hope for the children housed there, and for the community, as the few jobs it provides will help to combat the 80% unemployment rate in the area.
We can't change the world. What we can do is share hope and a brighter future through the love of Christ to perhaps as many as 500 children over a lifetime.
