The Southern Kingdom consisted of the tribes Judah and Benjamin. There was an Davidic Dynasty in the South was unbroken which was not true in the dynasties in the North.

Even though the people and leaders sinned, God did not send disaster because of His promise to David (2 Samuel 7)

Many prophets were sent by God the the South to persuaded them to turn from their sin. However, they like their brothers in the north were conquered and carried into captivity after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC. They remained their for 70 years.
