PANORAMIC VIEW:

The Tabernacle was a portable worship center which YHWH instructed Moses and the Hebrew people to construct while at Mount Sinai in the wilderness.  Exodus 25-30; 37-40

When the cloud or fire moved the people moved the Tabernacle. Literally and symbolically God was with them where ever they went.

King David desired to build a building to house the Ark of the Covenant. Through the Prophet Nathan, God told David that the Tabernacle was  all that He had desired. However, God allowed a permanent structure to be constructed. 2 Samuel 7

Solomon's Temple

1 Kings 5-8

After construction was complete, the Ark of Covenant was moved inside. 

The Temple became the primary place of worship for the Jews.

Over time the Temple became the "only" place to really worship God. The people lost the idea that God was everywhere.

At the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians, Solomon's Temple was destroyed.

Temple After the Exile

Ezra 3:7-6:17

The returning exiles rebuild the temple. Because of the lack of resources and opposition the previous grandeur was not achieved.

Herod's Temple

Herod the Great constructed a Temple for the Jewish people by adding to the one build by the exiles.

At the fall of Jerusalem to the Romans in 70 A.D. this temple was destroyed.
