PANORAMIC VIEW:
Noah is a central character in Old Testament history. Noah "found grace" in the eye of the Lord. Noah was a man of profound, persistant faith who took about 100 years to build a boat based on a promise from God. Noah lived in a very vile era. God was enromously displeased with those he created. The flood was judgment upon the sins of people. God had had enough.
Noah was a family man. He and his sons - Shem, Ham, Japheth - constructed the ark for themselves, their wives, and animals.
RAINBOW Noah is know for having been given a promise. The rainbow was a promise, pledge of God which stated God's intention never to destroy the world again with water.
There has been and will be much debate about the flood and Noah's boat.
