Ol' Main Dust<\/strong>

If you look, you will see very
\n\t\t\t\t\t  small sparkles in the sandstone chip
\n\t\t\t\t\t    left from the hewing of the symbol
\n\t\t\t\t\t     of my Alma Mater —<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The sparkles are my friends who
\n\t\t\t\t\t  studied …
\n\t\t\t\t\t    cried …
\n\t\t\t\t\t      thought …
\n\t\t\t\t\t        fell in love …
\n\t\t\t\t\t          felt loneliness …
\n\t\t\t\t\t            made decisions …
\n\t\t\t\t\t     took lone walks by the 32 lamp posts …
\n\t\t\t\t\t           hoped …
\n\t\t\t\t\t                 prayed …
\n\t\t\t\t\t                       found God's will …<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

People are our University Experience <\/strong>…
\n\t\t\t\t\tfrail human beings relying upon God's help and 
\n\t\t\t\t\tlooking to Him for strength.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Brooks, you and I are by-gones … yet, those
\n\t\t\t\t\t  who came before …
\n\t\t\t\t\t    who will come after …
\n\t\t\t\t\t     and those who remain are all
\n\t\t\t\t\tDust of the University Experience<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The H-pond has changed color … 
\n\t\t\t\t\tThere are no more biology specimen … 
\n\t\t\t\t\tIn fact, the real H2O with all the
\n\t\t\t\t\t  slim
\n\t\t\t\t\t    spiders
\n\t\t\t\t\t      fish
\n\t\t\t\t\t        leaves has been replaced by more efficents
\n\t\t\t\t\t           and cleaner paint …<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, in life the colors often change …
\n\t\t\t\t\tYes, in life thoughts change
\n\t\t\t\t\tYes, even sometimes friends change.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

BUT, the H-pond is still the H-pond. Even though, now,
\n\t\t\t\t\tthere are only memories of frogs, fish, flowers, leaves,
\n\t\t\t\t\tnewspapers scraps, sticks and rocks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We have memories of the many people who make<\/span><\/p>\n

"OL' MAIN DUST"<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I want you to know that I am happy you had part in these good days for me. You may not be aware of your part …just know that your part was real and important.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the classes … 
\n\t\t\t\t\tthe frustration …
\n\t\t\t\t\tcomplexities of being …
\n\t\t\t\t\tthe great thinking walks around campus …
\n\t\t\t\t\tthe people … 
\n\t\t\t\t\tthe teachers …
\n\t\t\t\t\tI do think the people are best.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

"And when upon my couch in vacant and pensive mood", <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

       I'll smile & thank my God for the<\/span><\/p>\n

Can there be hewing…
\n\t\t\t\t\twithout a few scattered chips, 
\n\t\t\t\t\treminiscent of rough and non-formed, un-tooled rocks?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

…leaving family … trips home. .. work … library … fun … spillway .. walking…
\n\t\t\t\t\t…searching for self .. St. John's … walking … 
\n\t\t\t\t\t…looking out tall window during class … gym … love … graduation … turn around day…<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

NOTE: Ol' Main Dust was given to Dr. Roger Brooks, President of HPU, on the day before he left for Houston. I presented him with a stone chip from the hewn stones from a flower beds around Ol' Main and a rose.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
